Italy relaunches industrial collaboration with Libya focusing on energy, critical raw materials and green technologies during the visit to Tripoli of the Minister of Enterprise and Made in Italy (Mimit), Adolfo Urso.
Preparatory Libya represents a market of interest for Italian companies also in the construction and infrastructure sector. It is enough to remember the maxi contract, later divided into smaller lots, to create the "peace highway" that should link the east and west of Libya. Or the reconstruction works of the international airport south of Tripoli, destroyed by two wars (2014 and 2019-20) carried out by the “Aeneas” consortium. After the 2011 revolution, the percentage of Italian companies returning to Libya is currently estimated at 70 percent. Of them, however, only half have actually resumed their production activities. To fully exploit this potential that already exists, conditions of security and legal certainty are needed in which we will have to work together, the unblocking of letters of credit, but also greater freedom of movement. In this sense, it should be noted that the resumption of air connections with Italy last September, in the context of the plan launched by the Civil Aviation Authority of Libya, whose objective is to satisfy the international demands of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and the European Aviation Safety Agency (easa). And direct connections with Misurata could also be restarted shortly (the Libyan “economic capital”) and Benghazi (capital of the historic eastern region of Cyrenaica), subject to approval by the National Civil Aviation Authority (Enac).
