With the commissioning of new natural gas facilities, with emphasis on the Temane Thermal Power Plant, located in the province of Inhambane, in southern Mozambique, the country aims to increase its energy production. This initiative aims to ensure universal access to energy by 2030 for all citizens of Mozambique, while positioning the country as a leading player on the global energy security scene.

Currently, the country's natural gas plants generate a total of 452 MW of energy. With the new plants coming online, this capacity will be significantly expanded, making it possible to supply energy not only to Mozambique, but also to some countries in the SADC region.

Natural gas plays an important role in Mozambique’s energy matrix, accounting for 38% of total energy supply. This reflects the fundamental importance of this resource as an energy source, meeting the needs of both commercial and residential consumers in the country. Projections point to an increase in global demand for energy from natural gas, growth that will be directly correlated with economic development. As the global energy transition agenda takes hold, the search for this resource is intensifying, especially in developing countries, where a significant portion of the population still does not have reliable access to electricity.

Mozambique's vast proven natural gas reserves, totaling around 180 trillion cubic feet, place the country in a strategic position to supply not only the southern African region, but also to become a significant supplier in the Asian and European markets for its energy potential.
